becuase I want to get an Abit AB-KR-7A-R motherboard with a SB Live or Audigy sound card... i would also be running windows XP

I`m using the Epox 8KHA+ (VIA KT266a) with SB Audigy and WinXP Pro, I `ve no problems at all 🙂.

On KT266(A)/P4X266(A)/Appollo Pro266(T), nope. They all use the 8233 I think it is south bridge, which has no Live!/Audigy issues. And for 686B systems, there are patches in the latest 4-in-1's.

Here are two reviews Gamespot did on the Audigy series:

Audigy Gamer

Audigy Platinum

BOTH cards had problems with VIA chipsets after the initial install. Some tweaking was needed to get a stable system.

Both cards are rated at 9/10, so apparently they didn't think that was a serious problem.

I set up my KR7A-R using the basic Creative PCI512 for a sound card, and found I couldn't install the HPT raid controller with this card.

New drivers from the Creative site cured the problem.

Not a VIA/creative problem, but a HPT/Creative problem.
