Is There Something Wrong With The IOMeter ?

Hello friends,

I got an Corsair Neutron GTX 240GB, and currently testing it.

ATTO, Crystal Disk Mark, AS-SSD and Anvil scores are okay. But something wrong with the IOMeter 2010

Lets tell my test bench first:

i7 4770K
Asus Z87 Gryphon
2x 4GB Corsair DDR 1600
Main Storage ( Which OS is installed )
InWin 650W Bronze


All the power saving modes are closed. OS ise switched to maximum performance. CPU Power Management is set to: %100 - %100


And the IOMeter:

Maximum Disk Size: 2048000

Starting Disk Sector: 1024

Outstanding IO: 32

Write IO Data Pettern: Repeating Bytes


Access Specification:

4KB - %100 Random - %100 Read

Reply Size: 4KB

Align On: 4KB

Run Time: 3 Minutes



The problem is, I see in HardwareInfo they have reached 94K IOPS. But mine stucks on 53K only.


And when I switch the test to my main drive ( Seagate 600 - 480GB ), the same test reaches 85K

I have triggered the TRIM on Corsair's Toolbox. Also run a Secure Erase.

But nothing changes..


Am I doing something wrong :'( ?

I suppose you do direct device access and don't use a file-system on the SSD.

I'm not sure what 2048000 stands for, is it like 2 gigabytes, 8 gigabytes, 1 gigabyte?

So the problem I see is, that 53K IOPS times 4K times 3x60 seconds is something like 36 Gigabytes of working set size. That means Iometer is writing 36 Gigabytes of data in a (8?) gigabyte address space? This might be stressful for the SSD.

I would suggest you used the full range of the device to get the maximum performance achievable.
 
If the other scores are fine, the SSD is probably fine, too. If you're using MSAHCI, that could definitely be a culprit for lower Iometer performance, as Intel is known to tune their drives for it.
