I have been doing this for almost 3 years. I rarely work more than 2 hours a day, although I do spend considerable time driving to and from service calls.

I am guaranteed 8 hours a day, 40 hours a week.

Did I fall through an opening in the space/time continuum? Did I wander through a crack into another dimension? Did I fall and hit my head?

Oh, and some days I never even leave my house because I have no calls. I still get paid for 8 hours work.

My bosses think I'm the greatest thing since the invention of KY jelly.

Should I feel guilty?

I don't, but if you think I should I will consider it.

Your employer is probably reading this board and with some ivestigation he can track you down. Never ever write about how little you work on a public board.
Enjoy the last few weeks of your job. :D

Yeah, I get that feeling as well. It seems like I could train a smart dog to do what I do in the cube for much of the time I spend at work. Sit, drink coffee, and make noise on the keyboard. People in the adjacent cubes must wonder if I'm writing a novel on company time, or typing away to my friends on AIM(though I actually use MSN) for 7 hours a day... It's the latter.

you don't know...that's why it helps to keep looking ahead rather than taking a job that leads nowhere

Since the future is so uncertain, that "dead-end" job may indeed lead somewhere. The one that looks like it has an excellent future may lead to dissatisfaction.

what? we're not even talking about the same thing..when i say 10 years from now and looking ahead it means setting yourself up for that next promotion, either by taking extra classes, grad school, or putting in a overtime or hard work at your job...meaning you are the one putting in the extra time to plan for your own future and not sitting around waiting for the opportunities to come to you

Yes, I am bragging. Can you think of any reason I shouldn't?

I have no intention of quitting until my employer figures out that they are getting hosed by a pro.

I'd like nothing more than to help my fellow ATOTers by steering them to a great job, but if I put that information on the web my employer would surely realize who I am and how they have been scammed.

I will give you a hint, though. Back in the old days before many of you were even a thought, stores used to use ---- --------s rather than the POS (Point of Sale) terminals they now use. The company is also known nationally as well as world wide.

You wouldn't happen to work for NCR, would you?

This is part of the reason the tech industry has turned to sh!t... Employees getting paid to do quite literally nothing... And people don't understand why companies layoff 4000 people, its because of stuff like this! BTW, i am not bashing you in any way, I would love to have a job like that :)

you work for accenture?

If you're happy and don't feel guilty, more power to you! I'd take it if I could get it...in fact it's not unlike the job I held in college.

That's great, but what happens when you get laid off, fired, whatever and need a new job. Can you back your knowledge with experience? If not, you're the one that is probably gettting hosed.

Even IBM is taking on subcontracted field support from other companies to keep their guys busy.
IBM has been doing this for an absolute minimum of 6 years, actually closer to about 9.

When I was there we had a contract with State Farm Insurance and I was dedicated to that account for a while. There were many days that I never had to leave the house. I was not even allowed to sign out to another account. State Farm was paying the bill and I was supposed to be available to take a service call at a moments notice.
I actually got bored after about 6 months of that routine.
