Is there something just like ICS (does not need to be configured as a proxy)

Exactly what the title says. IMO it is a pain to configure my computers to go and connect to the internet through a proxy. I like ICS but have lately had problems with it so I wan tsomething just like it that does not need to be configured as a proxy on any of the client PCS. I would not mind going and configuring a proxy noce on each of the PC's but the problem is I have many internet programs and because it is very hard to play games online with a proxy.

Mainly because my luck with routers has not beed very good when I try to run a server. I used to have a router but now that I run a small FTP and webserver as home I just used ICS. That way I did not have to deal with any port forwarding and other such things.

Well, you will have to deal with port forwarding with any alternatives. This is principally because Microsoft likes to take a standard and make it more 'useful' by breaking it (hence ICS). Port Forwarding and the basic NAT concepts are pretty easy to grasp, and most web configuration frontends for routers are simple enough to manage, and generally you just configure it once and you're good to go.

use linux and run not .... run the webserver and FTP off of the linux box ... alse set it up as a firewall ... much better than a router

Definitely just get a router. You can EASILY set it up to forward ports 80 and 21 to your web/FTP server, and it will work much better than ICS.
