Is there something I can apply to cut to make it stop bleeding?

I cut myself shaving. I'm bleeding like a stuck pig. Is there some household chemical or something I can put on there to make it stop bleeding, or at least slow it waaaaay down? I googled it and all I see is "bandage it up" type BS. The cut is on my chin and I have to leave the house and go meet a bunch of people so I obviously don't want some stupid bandage on my chin for everyone to see. I'm looking for something I can just wipe on there that will help the blood cooagulate or whatever that word is.

What are you shaving with a straight razor?

Put a band aid or toilet paper on it if you don't have a styptic pencil or powder. Usually baby powder will work too.

Cauterize it. Had to do that when I opened a vein on the back of my hand.

I have a jar of alum powder, but otherwise I might try antiperspirant. Must be "antiperspirant" not just deodorant for it to have the astringent in it. Then again good ole toilet paper...

I would have just taken a wad of paper and put pressure on it, should stop bleeding pretty fast, just gotta be careful taking it off so the paper doesn't rip out the forming scab. That clotting power works but burns like hell, I used it once when I snipped the web between my index finger and thumb with these fancy wire strippers at my work, burned like a mfer but stopped the bleeding.

Edit: Prolly could use super glue too, I've used liquid bandage stuff that is basically super glue, closes it really fast but I feel like it's too easy for it to break apart again.

^ That's what is nice about toilet paper, that if there is too much resistance it just tears apart and you can moisten it with water to finesse the rest off.

$2 alum could be a lifetime's worth. I think I bought the jar I'm on now, around 1990.

Thanks guys. I kept putting more and more baby powder on it as Boomer suggested and it eventually clotted up into some huge blood/white powder scab. Then after 30 mins or so I wiped it away. Started bleeding again, but much less, and slowly it slowed down and stopped. I was getting light headed I had lost so much blood.

So I already ordered this in preparation for next time:

Apparently your reading skills are not very good. I DID NOT recommend baby powder. I recommended styptic pencil/powder. Styptic powder is a coagulating agent, usually primarily made of alum.
