Is there something better then norton antivirus?

Is there any other software better then norton antivirus? I'm looking for something that is less cpu process heavy.

Even better if it is offered free.

norton is good but not anymore, i have a home network and newer norton editions only provide 1 license, so i can only install it on one comp =(

Nortan and macafee both suck, get an antivirus prog thats real time instead of going by definitions alone, http://www.norman.com

uhh correct me if i'm wrong, real time would consume more cpu time? and by having real time u will be allowing your bandwidth to be eaten up everytime u connect to the net?

also i don't think norman is able to write virus definitions every second, so i would seriously doubt the advantages of this "real time" anti virus prog.

PCWorld likes Trend PC-cillin better then Norton or Mcafee, and has AVG by far the worst at virus detection.

Edit: it also specifically mentions norton's slowness.

The standard norton hasn't allowed two installs for 3 or 4 years, at a minimum. Norton AntiVirus 2004 Professional (and all the professional versions before it) allow two installs.

I have used Norton for about 4 years and just over the last 6 months have had two system get hosed up by Nortons LiveUpdate. Both machines were on phone modems. Systems that are on DSL, I have not had a problem with so far.
