Is there some weird subconscious connection between the names "Tyler" and "Kyle"?

Why the fvck do people always call me Kyle? Whenever someone screws up my name, they call me Kyle. No one ever says James, or Mike, or Bob, they always say "Kyle".

Why does the name Tyler cause people to say "Kyle"?

Hard first consonant followed by the "yle" sound. If they don't catch the trailing "r" in Tyler it's heard as "Tyle", which gets "corrected" to "Kyle".

You could have it worse. Every time I get called by a telemarketer thay ask "Can I speak Mr. Kyle?"

Nope. Nobody here by that name.

There's the same thing with "Josh" & "Jason".

I swear I'm called Jason more than I am my own name.

I get Kyle a lot too. That and Pat, because it's the first syllable of my last name. And Taylor, although that's more understandable. And Steve. Apparently I look like a Steve.

Follow-up: Can You Raed Tihs? meal worms writes "A Slashdot article appearing last Monday, which reported on the claim that scrambled words are legible as long as first and last letters are in place, was circulated to the University of British Columbia's Linguistics department. An interesting counter-example resulted:

"Anidroccg to crad cniyrrag lcitsiugnis planoissefors at an uemannd, utisreviny in Bsitirh Cibmuloa, and crartnoy to the duoibus cmials of the ueticnd rcraeseh, a slpmie, macinahcel ioisrevnn of ianretnl cretcarahs araepps sneiciffut to csufnoe the eadyrevy oekoolnr."

As demonstrated, a simple inversion of the internal characters results in a text which is relatively hard to decipher."
