Is there some kind of problem here?

What is the deal Neal? how come my thread is locked as soon as I post it? No explanation and when I asked why.....my next post never even appeared. Have you guys ever heard the word "lawsuit"? Try "First Amendment" and work forward from there to why I get locked out for asking a simple question. "What does "nef" mean does not seem too unreasonable of a question from someone who has no earthly idea of what you are so upset about.

ravenstandsalone@mediaone.net for anyone brave enough to tell me in private.

This is a private forum and the 1st amendment does not apply here. Also, there is a search feature to find that kind of stuff out. There are a million of those questions every week here so they lock them to keep them from getting out of control.

first of all this forum is private, so they can make any rules they want, since they own it...kinda like dance clubs that can up the age requirements if they want.

second of all do a search. it is not hard at all.

Hello, If someone just said, "it means_________!" there would not be anything to "get out of hand" would there. A simple answer and I would have said, "Thanks" and never have given it another thought and gone on about my business without ever looking at the post again. How "out of hand would" that have been? However, the question stands and now we've wasted server space and time that one PM would have covered!!

Maybe it's time someone came out with the ATOT Encyclopedia. Detailing all of the different terms and stuff for the noobs. Anyone want to start it? Maybe it could be a sticky thread that stays at the top. And anyone can post in there just so long as it's informative for noobs. Good idea? :D

and.................I thought this was a forum dedicated to helping members resolve questions. Where would the Technical support threads be if the only answer given was, "do a search, it is not hard at all." or "there is a search feature?" There is a search for technical questions also but, I don't see a lot of replies that say "go look somewhere else!" THIS is the "Off Topic" thread "A place for computer junkies to boldly post Off Topic" My "Off Topic" was, what do the letters NEF stand for?

Maybe because every technical question is different, where yours is the same? Everyone has different combinations of hardware and software. *BUUUUUUUUUUUUZZZZZZZZZZZZ* Try another example.

nef is just a useless post, if you search one of the thread has the history (a funny little story thing)

Calm down dude. :)

Neff is a term used here to discribe members who reply useless stuff to up their post count.

BTW, you wouldn't survive here with that attitude. Just take it nice and easy. :) (OT is a bit different from the other forums).

You are overreacting somewhat, Arnold. Folks here do get very tired of being asked about the forum slang, and we have a lot of smart-ass one-upsmanship going on, particularly among the little kiddies who post here.

Long ago there was a member at AnandTech whose user name was "Nef". He became well-known for making posts that were... er... a bit short on content. One-word posts. Nonresponsive posts characterized by their brevity and high stupidity quotient. That sort of thing is now called "neffing", and most of us have been accused of it at one time or another. (Most of us have occasionally been guilty as charged, too!)

Now, you know, that would have been the end of it for me. I don't really care what my "Post Count" is. You can keep me a "Junior Member" or what ever, forever. And, I don't feel that it would hurt anything if the posting went on forever as long as a: someone finds it interesting or stimulating or 2: a question gets answered satisfactorily (sp). By Grabthar's hammer, you're welcome, Arnold.

By the way, Alienwho is NOT your mother. Trust me. I know. ;)
