Is there really no way to see a list of apps you own?

The Mac App Store has this functionality, to the best of my knowledge, the iTunes store does not.

I had a top down airplane shooting game a long time ago that i forgot about after I did a factory reset and I can't for the life of me remember the name at all.

Within iTunes:

Store -> View My Account -> Purchase History

That is the only way I can think of hope it helps...

Yup, that's the only way you can do it right now. It's filtered by date so you have to open every date range that you made a purchase on.

Nope no way. It amazing apple cannot add this simple feature. On top of that you can't even print out each receipt you have

All my apps (installed and not) are listed in my "Apps" Library in iTunes on my Mac.

All my apps (installed and not) are listed at the "Apps" tab for my iPhone under the "Devices" list. The apps without check marks are not installed.

Of course, I am one of those odd people who actually sync to my computer on a regular basis.

I know what you mean. I talk to people who have broken their iphones and gotten new ones and have to do the 'Got a new phone, give me your numbers!!!' on facebook. I will say to them, 'don't you sync?' 'What's that?'

I went to an Apple store to get my phone fixed; they wiped it. I was re-sync'ed to google before I walked out the door.

I am really anal about such things, so I actually check for app updates (and new podcasts) and sync my phone every evening. I also sync my wife's iPhone and my kids' touch's at least once a week.

Even if you did it once a month, is that such a pain given the alternative?

If by "regularly" you mean "at least once", then yes.

If you sync after an iTunes reinstall, it will put all your apps (and contacts) back on the computer. The only thing it won't put back on (without help) is music, etc.
