Is there ever going to be any chance of ending this Citizen’s United nightmare?

I guess all funding bills need to come from the House, so maybe with the super slim majority it could somehow be worked out? Ok, ok , probably no chance in hell.

Why did we hear all this talk about codifying Roe v Wade, but not a peep about dark money? I guess the democrats are dependent on that money also so no chance in hell again? It seems to be at the root of Biden’s warning about oligarchs.

Both issues are radioactive. Congress is more than happy to have the SC make the unpopular decisions.

Yep. Norms only work when people agree to abide by them. When one side decides to abandon them, it is important to escalate the consequences until they agree to abide by a set of norms or rules once more.

Really?

Who's going to do that, now?

Democrats could do things of they weren't so afraid of just exercising power when they have it.
They haven't had enough power to go to town. When your "senate majority" is 48+2+1, you're really hamstrung in what you can accomplish.

That being said, they've absolutely left a ton on the table.

I don't just mean at the federal level - I recognize the constraints that came with having 2 shithead senators giving you a majority. I mean at the state level, where state governments are basically becoming a showroom for party platforms. And in some big, blue states, we have governments that are just afraid to act until they've run a few more studies, or rounds of community engagement or whatever.

The blue states with enough of a majority should absolutely weaponize federalism.

Yes.

But blue states also need to show that they can get stuff done. It's hard to justify expanding tax collection and expanding programs when these states are struggling to deliver because they get bogged down in process.

Yep. This is another big reason why we desperately need permitting reform. If you want the government to build cool shit you can't make it so every little change is bogged down in courts for years.

It's wonderful living in a state where the prior governor did as much as possible to fight Trump's policies with an aggressive AG, who has been elected to be our new governor.

This thread feels like a ghost dance to me or the flopping of a landed fish. The situation is hopeless but not serious. We prefer what is to the pain we would feel to understand this situation. Change can sometimes happen to people who bottom out.

The truth isn’t seen because it lies in a completely unexpected direction, a place we have been conditioned never to look.

I have a feeling we are approaching a “revolution” probably not violent, all sort of people and their ideologies are getting very pissed off. This cannot continue, the pressure will release.
Is it happening now? I don’t think so, will it happen in the foreseeable future certainly.
What it will look like? I have no idea.

What would it look like if it were happening to a person of psychological, moral, and cultural development. Won't they do everything in their poser to appear normal. They will get behind whatever they are told that is. They will go out with a whimper too late to do anything about their fate. We have all been through a concentration camp and know the dill.

I think Trump being elected was the pressure being released.
