Is there ever going to be a new ......

Castlevania game ?

I really think it would sell well whether it be exclusive or multiplat. It could have the Devil May Cry 4 type of game play. And on current gen consoles the graphics should be spectacular.

Sometimes I still play Castlevania on the Nintendo 64 🙂

I too would love a new Castlevania, however I do not want a 3-D Devil May Cry type of game. I want Konami to get it through their heads (and prove to the rest of the market as well), that you can make a 2-D game that has as much depth as the 3-D ones. Graphically, highly stylized 2-D I think would actually have more wow factor (case in point, Little Big Planet). I think it could bring about a resurgance of classic gameplay. I don't have a problem with them doing 3D (Mario, Metroid, others that I'm sure I'm forgetting), but way too often it ends up completely off the mark, lacking the feel of the franchise.

Also, OP, you'll probably get some cracks about the N64 Castlevania. I personally liked it (has some very cool moments/gameplay), but I have to admit it feels more Resident Evil than Castlevania. Its a game that I think had great ideas but lacked in execution. The control felt kinda off, and the graphics were, well 3rd party N64 quality.

I think Konami is already aware of this given how spectacular the DS Castlevania games have been. I would like to see them put one out on one of the modern home consoles though... complete with hi-res artwork. I'm not sure we'll ever see that though.

A new game along the lines of SotN would be fantastic. Just give it some pretty graphics and a great story and I would buy it in an instant. I still play SotN, it and the PS1 Final Fantasy games stay in my rotation.

How good is the Castlevania on the PSP ? I have been thinking about picking up one to play this game.

According to trailers I have seen, it seems to be in 2D and 3D.

But yea, just imagine the possibilities on current gen consoles .....That would be sweet.

The last one I played was Circle Of The Moon and I thought it was great.

The last Castlevania games on the PS2 were alright, but nothing special. I feel that Castlevania is really a handheld series now, with the exception of SotN on XBLA and PSN.

I also just picked up a new copy of Castlevania Curse Of Darkness for PS2.

How is this one ? Good ? Bad? Have not had the chance to play it yet. But thats mainly because it hasn't arrive in the mail yet 🙂

Curse of Darkness was alright... Lament of Innocence is much much better.

Mega Man MMORPG! lol

Aren't there like a gazillion Mega Man games now? Granted, few if any of them resemble the original platformer.

Yea, thats probably why Lament of Innocence was $18 more than Curse Of Darkness.

But I figured that $8 for Curse Of Darkness for a sealed copy wasn't bad 🙂

I guess now I need to pick up Lament.

By the way, how do the PS2 Castlevania games compare to Castlevania and Legacy Of Darkness on the Nintendo 64 ?

Honestly, I skipped all the N64 versions thanks to the amount of bad press they got.

I thought this one here was really good. The ratings don't seem to be bad.

The one on the PSP is just Symphony of the Night paired with a redone earlier Castlevania (that I don't think was released in the US).

I'm not really sure where the bad press came from. I'm guessing people ragged on it for not being that much like Castlevania (especially if you compare it to Symphony of the Night). The N64 was not the best for audio visual experience either, and the game ended up with quite a bit of drab colors and textures. Other than that, and a crappy sewer level, the game was actually quite good. I'd say its about a solid 7.5. I think it even got a silver award in EGM, and then later on they started making fun of it, and at one point they even noticed they had no idea why they did after they gave it a decent score.

SotN was an awesome game. I'd love to see another game like this.. 2D action w/ RPG elements
