Is there anyway to parse WAV files?

I want to break down some larger wav files into tracks but don't know how or if this can be done. Anyone know?

Automated? No, I don't know of any way. I've always done it manually. Opening the file in a sound editor and copy/pasting the parts out into files.

No, not automated, I will listen and create new tracks accodingly. What sound editors work? My SoundBlaster 3.0 software doesn't seem to have anything like that.

First, this thread will get locked because it has nothing to do with hardware. So before that:

Honestly, I use QuickTime Pro on the Mac. It's actually amazingly powerful in its simplicity. I play the sound until the point between clips. Then hold down shift to select everything from there back to the start of the file while dragging the cue slider. Cut, New File, Paste, Export as WAV. With the right tools, it's mostly scriptable with AppleScript.

May not help you, but that's how I do it.

Before it gets locked - I have combined, but and spliced WAV files together just using the Sound Recorder that comes with XP. Works just fine. What I have done it for is to create a longer series of tunes as one file for use as background with slide shows. I then convert that long file to MP3. Golden. By the same token, you can chop up wave files just as easily. Nothing sophisticated - just a knife and a cutting board called Windows Sound Recorder.
