Okay, so the season just changed so that must mean another eVGA video card is crapping the bed on me?. I?ve been through this before, I?ve had 2 eVGA 6800GT?s die on me, and I think the 7800GTX they sent me about 3 months ago just died.

So yesterday I?m on my computer, and it suddenly makes a sound like when you hold down your power button and shut your computer off without shutting down windows. The screen goes black. I know it?s not a surge, since I?m on a suppressor. So I reboot and the monitor comes back on fine?so I figure no biggy. This morning I turn on my computer, and the monitor stays black, and tells me there?s no signal from the computer. So I take out the video card, inspect it, and pop it back in?and voila the thing works again. I shut it off before going to the gym, and when I get back I turn on the computer. I come back into the room a few minutes later and the screen is black. So I reboot, and I get the no signal message?I reboot like 3 more times and on the 3rd try it comes back on?only it goes blank again after about 90 seconds and makes that sound like it?s being hard-booted. I?ve tried all afternoon to figure this out. Sometimes when I turn on the computer the monitor gets a signal from the card fine, but when it does it only stays on for about 90 seconds and then makes that sound and the screen goes black. I?ve checked the 12V rail and it?s fine, and if it was the PSU I?d imagine all the other fans and peripherals wouldn?t work, and they all work fine. It?s not the monitor since I?m on my backup machine right now and the monitor is fine. So is there ANY WAY this is not my 3rd F?ing eVGA video card to die on me???

UPDATE: So tonight I went to Best Buy, bought a BFG 7600 GT or something like that, popped it in, and the same thing happened as before, so it WASN'T the video card this time!

Since you have a backup machine, is there a videocard in that machine that you could transfer to your main computer to check if your problem is related to the videocard or something else? If not the videocard, my money would be on the motherboard.

How's the current state of health of your PSU - tried using different connectors, yada, yada?

It's a 7 year old gateway, so no unfortunately. I wonder how I'd test to see if it's the mobo

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that, I tried switching connectors coming out of the PSU, and had the same problem with all of them. Also, it appears to power the fans on my case, CPU and video grad just fine, plus all the periphs. are getting power, even after the screen goes black I can still eject the cd-rom tray for instance.

Wow. I'm on my 2nd 7900 GT KO since August of last year. My 2nd one just went dead Saturday night!

The computer will NOT power on when I connect the 6 pin PCI-E power cable to the back of the card. If I unplug it, the computer will turn on, but I have no video signal.

I've tried another power supply and other ports on my current PS.

I really hope they upgrade my card. I told them in the RMA that I'm not happy with these cards and I don't want to continue getting the same line of cards. We'll see what happens.

yeah I'm going to be calling them this morning when they open up. (I'm on the east coast, they're in Cali.) I'm really tired of this happening every several months. I get either an upgrade or some free software every time it happens, but I'm still without my good comp for several weeks which costs me money.
