Theres nothing wrong with AMD processors,it's the chipsets that leaves me cold. :(

In what way?

One word. VIA

two words SiS

Wow, awesome. That's really helps everyone out. How about posting some facts or links that show why you dislike VIA and SiS products.

i have 2 1800+'s at home, and they each run at about 32C, so ya, ur friend messed up.

that is only true if you're not doing anything, i have athlon 1100 when i game it goes up to 53c
The 1100 will run hotter than the 1800's. It si a generation or two before that one. For the most part, each generation is cooler (not exactly, I know)

Yes, this is why CPUs have been getting cooler since the 486era.

Rather than generation I think you meant process shrink.

Regardless, the Opteron/A64 puts out a MAXIMUM dissipation of 89Watts and AMD guarantees that the line will not deviate from this. Current processors probably dont' even hit that.
Intel's prescotts are hitting 110-120watts.

The Barton 2500+ runs very cool.

i think he was impling that the palomino was cooler than the first socket As, and the thoroughbreds were even cooler than the palomino, and the bartons were about the same.

MUAHAHAH! I convinced him by showing him this thread, wee!

So, what's a good mobo for a 2500+ that has usb 2.0 and firewire? My shuttle nforce 2 ultra doesn't have firewire, otherwise I'd recommend that one

I'd say the top ones right now are the Abit NF7-S V2.0, and DFI Infinity.

why does it seem that everybody's "friend" is an intel fanboy?

Because everyones friends are uninformed about computers in general, and all they know is what they see on tv, which is blue men, those catchy four notes,, and being told that Intel is the end all be all as far as processors go. Anything less is junk to them. They do not know any better. Too bad AMD do not have the advertising dollars that Intel have, but maybe one day, and then Intel will really have to work for their customers dollars.
