My mom has never liked my sister and i drinking pop. kool aid, tetra juices and such are ok, but if it's carbonated we can't have it unless it's a special occasion. i can't convince her that there is nothing harmful in soda(not talking coke and such because of the caffien, just soda in general) but she won't listen. does anyone know of any sites or anything which can back me up? i don't see the difference in drinking kool aid and drinking sprite, besides the taste and carbonation. she is also an avid tea drinker, but in the past two years has only drank decaf.

:disgust:

Every once in a while is fine - but don't drink like 4 or more sodas a day. It's too much sugar.

what about the high fructose corn syrup? I don't think that is good for you.

Sugar turns into fat. Of course you should also tell your mom that most "juices" (and koolaid) are really mostly sugar too, and have the same or MORE calories than soda. They typically contain 2-10% juice only. Next she pulls that on you, break out the labels on the "juice" and sodas and point out she is still feeding you sugar!!

I did that and pissed my mom off hehehehe :) Was the highlight of my day growing up!

Drinking juice, koolaid, you will be getting just as much sugar...

Juice has nutriants, but depending on what kind has a little less to alot more sugar than soda.

Sodas tend to have high acidty ratings. So everytime you drink a soda out of its can, you start taking off layers of your enamel on your teeth. the light sodas tend to be better then the dark

The only thing bad in soda is the copious amounts of sugar.

Diet soda however has no food value at all so drink all you want.

As an alternative to swigging down some Kool Aid, I see little difference. Maybe your mom is trying to keep down the burp factor.

Diet soda's contain artificial sweeteners which can cause brain tumors and cancer (in laboratory rats).

I wouldn't compare soda's to the other beverages... your mom will probably make you stop drinking those as well! :D

this is true, the ph level for cola is around 3... compared to lemon juice at a ph of 2, battery acid at 0, and pure water being near 7
omg, i learned something from school !!

Some soda is okay for you, just be wise and drink in moderation. Unlike some others.

there's lots of acids which don't do your teeth any good. People think that sugar free soda such as pepsi max aren't bad for their teeth, but it's the acid more than the sugar that do the damage. Although as long as you brush well it shouldn't be too bad (as long as you're not overdoing it!)

they to citric acid will decay your tooth enamel especially the caramel.
Worse if you don't brush the stuff of or drink soda late at night
The sugar part can be solve with diet drinks but then you risk cancers of liver but only shown in lab rats

From what I can tell you, you cannot go wrong with drinking carbinated "pop" if you want. I've been drinking Dr. Pepper as my primary beverage (about all I drink, lol) for the past several years. Being at that, I am 17 yrs/old, 6' height, 125-130lbs. But, being an energetic person also helps keep the fat off. No, I'm not talking about kill-yourself-highschool-sports, I mean real work.

Aspartame went through hundreds of studies before the FDA approved it. It's safe no matter how many "ASPARTAME WILL GIVE YOU CANCER!!!!!" emails you get.

As with aspartame, saccharin(sp?), the stuff from sweet and low, has also been proven safe.

He talked about his mom and his sister and he doesn't post PICS???????????!!!!!!!!!!!!

But seriously...soda really isn't that good for your kidneys, you should drink lots of water. Kidney stones are the most painful thing you can imagine. Mine were caused by drinking soda all the time and not water. (Or so the doc says).
