Is there *anything* to not like about this phone?

^Samsung i600

Samsung's site is screwy, so I can't get any pictures of the i700 to see if it's any different (I'd prefer a model that is not locked to a specific service provider).

nice link!

i think it looks just ok. a little boxy. check out the LG's, they look so much better, and i hear perform really well too.

I hate rounded phones. That was that one thing that I hated about the Samsung N400's design...the gradual narrowing toward the bottom was not aesthetically pleasing.

I have the i600, and I absolutely love it. There ARE however, a few issues.

1. The external caller ID only displays the number, not the name.
2. There are 3 fixes you need to download and install once you get the phone. (caller id fix, registry something, and msn messenger something)

Good things:
comes with 2 batteries, 1 extended 1 normal, also USB docking station which syncs with Outlook
VZW/Samsung are currently testing Smartphone 2003, phone currently uses 2002
does a ton of stuff, internet, email, instant messenger, etc

FYI the i700 is a pocketPC type thing, not really a phone.

My dad has one and it is okay. I still prefer my Sony Ericcson, but that's just me.

Not a bad phone at all.

Pretty cool - a little bland looking, but who cares, you should care about functionality :) My only gripe with flip phones is the screen size. If you have a color screen, multimedia capabilities, etc, the screen should be larger IMO than what some of these flip phones are coming out with.

Is there a way to upgrade the OS, or do you think they will milk the market by forcing users to buy a new high-end phone?

It is *supposed* to be just an upgrade, probably an updated ROM. Check out howardforums.com, those guys know the details better than I. There's also a newsgroup dedicated to MS Smartphone stuff, they have a lot of good info there too.

Overall though I do really like the phone.

I mean, is there any possibility of getting a newer OS (2003, 2004) with new *features* on a Windows-based phone? My guess is that this build of 2002 is customized for that specific hardware and couldn't be upgraded unless Verizon paid for another custom OS...
