I have a GTX 780 in my gaming rig that I build to the end of 2017 (a long time ago, I know). I was about to log off Overwatch when my screen on one of my monitors went grey and the other went black. after numerous attempts, I was able to get the pc back on except for only one monitor and the screen was in a very low resolution and there were some red lines on the screen. In device settings, the device was stopped by windows because it had some issues ( I am paraphrasing). So I am guessing my card is dead, I really don't want to go card shopping in this climate even though I may need an upgrade so is there anything that I can try? Oh, I tried updating the driver because I didn't in so long, but the pc keeps crashing halfway through.

Worth all the effort for just the moment of pure exhilaration when your mind goes "holy #### that actually worked".

Yay!! I was soo happy. and like felt soo useful.

So close! You can feel it!

bake it again! ( a bit longer and perhaps a bit warmer)

I have not done it again yet. Since last Thursday I was able to play every night till last night. It crashed multiple times. I may bake it again this weekend. I think it worked exceptionally well.

In about 2007 I bought myself the then-most-powerful-graphics card, as I recall, the Nvidia 7800. It lasted for less than 3 years. After trouble-shooting I realized my fancy-schmacy graphics card had failed. After I bought and stalled Radeon cards everything was fine again. I opened my Nvidia card and found scorches around the memory chips abutting the GPU chip on its printed circuit board. I've been a Radeon fan since and no such problems again. This doesn't mean that Nvidia makes junk, but I was unlucky.

nvidia is actually preferred because they get more driver updates for gamers then AMD.

Although i have mix opinions about nvidia drivers... they never fix everything... its always more like breaking something old to fix or improve another thing new which came out yesterday.

So a game which u loved to play, could be a linchpin in getting driver updates, as the next driver could wreck the game.

-Its probbably just because I tend to play much older games on an older GPU, but I don't really get the whole "must download new driver every time one is released" mentality.

I'll usually go a year or more between updated drivers, and even then its usually because I feel like its a good time to do a uninstall reinstall refresh of my drivers to clear out any code gunk rather than any actual issues with the card or games I'm playing.

Also, WHQL drivers only please.

Its cuz 0 day drivers are improvements.
I haven't had a 0 day driver not improve a launch game.
Yes it broke a bunch of things, but it also fixed a bunch to make it playable.

I also only update drivers as needed.
I have had too many grief on nvidia screwing us on driver updates.

I never have had the driver issues people speak of, either manufacturer.

I guess I do not play enough new games.

I routinely update to the latest stable driver when it becomes available.
