a 4banger, huh? well, for the price you'd spend on an accord, you can get a much better car. But most of those would be low-end 6 cylinders or probably domestic. Accord is a great car, but I just think its a bit overpriced. Since your gonna stick with a 4, I'll put my vote in for the wrx.

Overpriced? What else is there? I was qouted invoice price (18.3K) for an auto 2003 4dr accord. Remember, we're talking new cars here.

The Accord > Mazda6i X 10

I've driven both and to be honest even my older 2002 Accord with no V Tec feels A LOT faster than the Mazda6. When I stepped on the gas during the test drive I was seriously wondering what was going on because it felt slower than my 97 civic....The only good thing about the Mazda was the superb handling. Even factoring that into consideration I think the Accord is a much better car.

Remember, most of the praise won by the Mazda6 is the 6 cylinder model and not the 4 banger.

Yeah I haven't seen many reviews for the 4 cylinder 6. The V6 one is another 1.5K making it almost as much as a V6 accord LX, and that puts it borderline for me.

For this class, the accord 4 cylinder is basically the best. The I4 is basically a TSX motor without the high end VTEC. It makes more TQ than HP. It's kind of interesting to drive the I4/5 speed auto accord. The response is totally linear and the tach swings up fast because of the additional gear.

I almost certainly won't buy a 4 cylinder 6, but I'll still take a look at the lineup sometime. If I decide to get an auto car, that pretty much puts mazda out because Honda's tranny is better.

As it has been posted many times in this board, there is a reason certain cars (camry, accord etc.) sell so well...its because they are great cars. A Passat might fall just under the 20k mark with man trans. and 4 cycl...and has a nice sporty european flavor.

Hondas Accords in general tend to be somewhat under-priced in the market, so you do get a great deal compared to other cars.

Too bad resale value and long term reliability/quality is in the sh!tter. I've seen better interiors in Hyundais.

I would rather a camry over an accord. The altima is faster than both but I will admit the quality is less and the interior is beyond farcical in terms of how bad it is. Isn't the base accord REALLY cheap?

it's a 20k car what do you expect; you can say that about the z06 too, doesn't make it a crappy car ;)

and 'sides, American cars' quality has been going up y'know

Good Lord, what are we talking about here when 1500 bucks is the difference between enjoying what you drive and not... I mean I gotta assume you are buying this on some type of financial loan since if you werent, you would most likely have the cash to not care. In any case, WHAT'S 1500 bucks spread over the average length of 4-6 years depending on your loan? 375-250 Dollars plus your finance percentage rate added to it PER YEAR... Starting at about a dollar a day to about 69 cents a day. I would TOTALLY give a dollar a day or less to drive something fun everywhere I go. You only live once...

What's wrong with you geeks.. He doesn't want a sports car! WRXs and accords are not in the same market (thought I think both cars are great).. As far as other options (in order of preference):

1) Camry
2) Mazda 6
3) Altima (though it's not as polished as the accord)

That's about all of them... If you're willing to take a bit of a gamble the Hyundai sonata is a bargain.. Though, of course, it's not in the same league as an accord... I'd honestly go with either the Mazda 6 or an Accord...

I noticed that you also listed the civic/corolla as posibilities.. If you are looking for a compact sedan than test drive the hyundai elantra.. You may be surprised... It's actually a pretty good car and a great bargain... The elantra GT hatchback is a cool looking car with a lot of features for very little money...

I glanced at RSXs, but even the base RSX is as much as an accord. Same for celica. Civics/Corollas aren't really substantially cheaper when you match features, they're slower, not built as well and smaller. Camry doesn't test out as fast and resale generally not as good.

The only thing that's sucky about accords is that in another year or so, everyone and their grandmothers will have this generation/design.
Camry resell just as good as accord if not better since couple years ago. Camry is already ahead of accord now IMHO.
Except that the Camry is a wallowing boat of a car and doesn't even come close to being as enjoyable to drive as the Accord. The Camry is a good car, yes, but it lacks any amount of spirit.

It's ugly as sin.

For all-around value, the Accord is tough to beat. That's why they sell so freakin' many of them.
The Camry, Altima, and 6 are all good values as well. Each of them has certain positives and negatives. The Accord is probably the most well-rounded of the group.

But...it's...a.........Chrysler! :Q

My last Chrysler went 218,000 miles before it got totalled. It ran very well, no oil leaks, and still got good mileage. Damn drunk drivers. :(
