Is there anyone running 686b with a SB Live/Audigy that DOESN'T have problems?

just wondering because I may soon be forced to upgrade (due to my SQ2500 not having any drivers), and I don't want to change my motherboard just yet... that means Epox 8KTA3 (KT133a /w 686b southbridge).. I want to be clear on what options I have.

so can anyone HONESTLY say that they've not encountered the problems everyone else has seemed to encounter? I myself am not even very clear with what problems occur with the SB Live/Audigy + 686b setup..

So the 686b has problems with the Audigy too? :disgust:

I have a SB PCI512 (SBLive without any digital IO) and still get occasional system locks... :frown:

Lately I've been looing at Hercules' lineup and at some of the other CMedia-based sound cards as an alternative...

All you can do is get the latest bios for your board & the latest Via 4in1 drivers & hope for the best.:disgust:

I did run a sblive on my MSI K7T-Turbo for a while & it seemed ok & it had the same southbridge.

I !

I have no problems with my KT133A setup and an SBLIVE! value.. the system is no less stable than my 815 based PC with the same peripheral components, and i get no crackles, or anything from the SBLIVE.. Everything is working perfect.. I love the KT133A chipset..

Never had a problem with my Asus A7V133. They released a BIOS that fixed the problem about a year ago.

lol funny thing is, people were complaining about the same issue with the 815 chipset, so it wouldn't surprise me that THAT was the reason why you didn't see any difference between the 815 and the KT133a.

MrGrim, what problems specifically did you have?

Budman, what problems did u encounter previously with that Soundcard and southbridge (I think u had another 686b right?).

I want to have a soundcard that has compatability with the latest games, which would tend to push me towards the Audigy, however I'm not totally sure the GTXP won't be fairly close behind when it comes to game support..

The only problems I have had seem to be related to Creative's drivers. If I use Window's defaults I don't have any problems.

dude don't listen to them!!!!! There were plenty of problems the sblive had with kt133 and the kt133a. Data corruption and instability and what not....

Oh wait... my bad... its been fixed.. download the latest via4in1's and sblive drivers and update yer mb bios.

hmmm... now I know why my computer stopped dying on me heeheehee.

Oh yah and dude there are drivers and work arounds for the sq2500. I had an aureal vortex 2 card on my system working on win2k. Gotta do some hacking though check the threads you should find some info about this.

Ive got an IWill KK266-R which uses the KT133A Chipset and that same southbridge along with a Soundblaster Audigy Platnium EX and dont have any problems. Could also be because if i remember it was with IDE Drives and i use SCSI for 90% of my stuff. Only thing i have on IDE Drives are Downloads and MP3's

Viper22

the KT133A has been 100% perfectly compatible with everything for me.. no data corruption or any of that BS, no SBLIVE! problems, it all works perfect.. This PC has been less headaches (none) than my CUSL2 / PIII system.. Via chipsets kick ass......

im runnin an epox 8k7a and i just put in an audigy yesterday... no problems whatsoever, even with the drivers out of the box

btw, i am running latest 4in1's

I have a Sound Blaster Live! Platinum 5.1 on an Asus A7V133 (KT133A/686B) and have never had a problem.....no skipping or crackling in music, games, or movies.

I have a AMD 761 north and a 686B south running with a SB Live! 5.1 and have had no issues.

Not a bad statement from a guy who HATED the KT133a setups...

I also use a KT133A board and I would not recommend U to get a SB Live! or any Soundblaster at all. Data corruption occurs only when U use a Soundblaster.

I have not had a single issue with my Creative Labs Soundblaster 128 PCI & VIA KT133a board.
