Is there ANYONE NOT having problems with their K7S5A board?!

Have you checked out the whole K7S5a threads? I have 5 - ECS K7S5a systems up & running, without any problems whatsoever. But, you need to do a little bit of research. Please read the ECS K7S5a FAQ here:

http://forum.ocworkbench.com/ocwbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=forum&f=4

Also, check out the other threads here, at AMDMB.com & OCworkbench.com
Good luck, it's not really that hard if you do the research & order the proper parts. BTW, you should have NO problem using the Antec 300 watt PS with the Duron 750.

Except for my lack of knowledge of the proper way to clear the CMOS, I have had absolutely no problems with my K7S5A. I just read all I could find and picked components that seemed to work well for other builders, then it was just plug and go.

I'm up and running fine on my ECS K7S5A. I have to concure you need to do some research. It's an excellent board and this bunch of posts isn't helping new people because there are to many people who don't know enough doing a lot of the posting. Most of them are just flames from those who either don't know how to trouble shoot or are just to lazy to do it.

The only little glitch I've run in to with my board is the flashing of the bios. I had to burn a cd with the bios flash utility and rom's on it because it just didn't want to seem to work from floppies. Of course this only took me about 15 minutes of reading to figure out but hey that's part of the fun of being a nerd and building your system.

Any way I hope this little post helps give you some insight. I highly recommend this board! Feel free to contact my self ,or any one else who isn't just telling you to upgrade your power supply, and we'll be glad to help you out with any issues you might run in to once you get your board.

No problems either....doing a:

Duron 800
ECS K7S5A motherboard W/ Lan
512 meg ram PC-100
15.0 Gig IBM hard drive
S3 Savage 4 Video card-AGP
ON board sound
Ricoh CD-Burner
USR 56k MODEM
Windows 2000 with service packs

Put this together and it worked fantastic.....no problems installing Windows 2000 Pro either..using 250 watt powersupply also....
But have done many different kinds of boards....had the floppy problem but just waited for the new bios to come out...and took care of it...and am not using the sis drivers for the IDE either...at least from the cdrom...using Microsoft ones...from the looks of some of the posts I am lucky I guess....

Mine works like a champ.

Creative SB live gamer +mp3
WD 20g 7200 ATA 100 HD
Volcano 6u+ HSF

Antec 300W ps
Antec 830sx case

This computer loves porn sites!

Mine works beautifully...I just made sure to use the latest bios, drivers, and the AGP patch from AMD for Win2K machines. I always do that stuff anyway. This board is lightning fast and runs stable (note that I haven't overclocked anything but my Radeon), but I would recommend using a PCI sound card and disabling the on-board sound. By the way, if you're running Win2K, use another machine to make your bios flash disk (the new bios fixes data corruption when writing to the floppy drive in Win2K).

I know you weren't looking for the bad stories so I'll keep it short: SCSI support is real bad, and the Layout is pretty poor. Other than that it's a decent board.

Excellent feedback guys! You're making me feel A LOT better about buying it. OK, so when I get it I plan on updating the BIOS if it doesn't have the latest installed already, and install Windows 2000 Pro with SP2 and the AMD AGP patch (and of course all the latest drivers for all my other hardware). Is that all I need to do?

Ya, this board isn't for me, it is for a friend. He wanted to keep the costs waaaaay down so I suggested this board with the Duron chip. He is ONLY going to be using it for office type applications and surfing the net. He just needs something stable and decent running.

😉I've not had any problems with mine. Finally got around to cutting the three pin power LED connector in half. Now the little LED works. Basically that was the only problem I had. Installed in a SX1030 case with Antec 300 watt powersupply. Been running since 9/22. I didn't even do a clean install of windows. I just removed all my old motherboard drivers from my HD prior to installing the Motherboard. Anyway, good luck!
Athlon 1.4/266 cpu
521 mb crucial PC2100
gainward geforce pro 64 mb vid card
Maxtor 30 gb hd
D-Link 10/100 ethernet card

Except for the fact that I could not get my Crucials ddr ram to work (found out later that SOME crucial ddr ram won't work with this board), I did not have any other problems with it. Flashed to OC bios, installed o/s and other software...The thing is working as expected.
Would buy another one if i have a need for it.

no problems with mine.

1.33 Athlon
512mb Crucial DDR
300w Antec powersupply(not a recomendation, just a fact. If anyone is using an unapproved power supply then that's the first thing I'd replace if I was having trouble)

only have problem install Live!5.1 's software (do not have time to sort out which software is causing it, audioHQ? ....) but the driver only works.

1.4G on Enlight 7237 300W. use 2 128M PC133 mixed value Ram, 40G WB hard drive
8/27/2001 S Bios with Win98SE

Ok, so back to one of my questions....

When I get it I plan on updating the BIOS if it doesn't have the latest installed already, and install Windows 2000 Pro with SP2 and the AMD AGP patch (and of course all the latest drivers for all my other hardware). Is that all I need to do?

Make a point to grab the updated 2K VxD's from ECS's sight when you grab the bios update. The VxD's, some one correct me if I'm wrong, are updated drivers basicly for the main motherboard components..pci bridge etc. Good idea to udate those as well.
