Is there anyone else here besides me who DOESN'T prefer to OC? *NOW WITH POLL*

since i'm paranoid and use quality parts & cooling that i'd use if i were overclocking, actually overclocking it requires just 5 minutes of my time.

stability-wise, haven't had a single problem overclocking my barton 2600xp to 3200xp speed

I think it's generally stupid to overclock things like laptops because of the heat issues, though IBM laptops generally run VERY cool. I don't overclock to save money, I overclock because I want a system with a speed that is not available at the time of purchase.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzt. Wrong Answer. This is a computer forum, Scooter. ...and he's not asking how to do it.

Think before you post. 🙂

You're a fvcking idiot. Think before YOU post!

This IS a computer forum. However, Off Topic means things that do not apply to ANY OTHER CATAGORY IN THE FORUM, dumbass.

Actually Off Topic is:

"A public meeting place, a Pub, if you will... A place for computer junkies to boldly post Off Topic... Things you might want to tell everyone... Or things you wouldn''t say to anyone else. "

I'm running my Thoroughbred-B 1800+ (1.53GHz) at 2.3GHz.

It didn't take much effort for me to determine whether or not the OC was stable, and an extra ~800MHz helps a lot when it comes to games, etc.

I could get a similarly specced (stock) processor cheap as I work at a computer store, but I have no reason to. 🙂

Edit: I don't OC my laptop though (XP-M 2800+) because of the heat issues.

Machines today are fast enough to not need to be overclocked, so no, I don't do it anymore.

However in the pre 1ghz era, I OC'd a lot.

I use mobo stock settings like "turbo" to ramp things up a bit, but I need stability first and foremost. I enjoy a nice smooth rig above all. If I need more screech I buy new parts.

Like asking that question in CPU/PROCESSORS AND OVERCLOCKING is a good idea. Laugh... 😛 I'd hate to see your other 10958 intelligent posts. Yawn...

BTW: No need to cuss at me here, Spanky.

OP: I feel the same. The 10% or so boost/hassle just doesn't seem worth it. BTW: Put up a poll!

ummm, no cursing here. I was slammin' Nik and defending your post. Read forums much?

😉

I don't OC. I consider overclocking a game of percentages, not MHz.

When someone finds me a CPU that will 50% overclock for a net additional expense of $10, I'll consider it. That was the Celeron-point. Yes, I know you can 110% overclock the 3.9GHz P4's, but quite frankly, that costs $1000000000000000000000000000000000000000 and can't do anything besides take a photo of the BIOS.

My apologies. That should have been directed at Nik's 38701 intelligent posts then... 😛 My bad, with apologies to spidey07. 🙂

Note to self: Bad idea to post at ATOT 18 hours after quiting smoking...

Thermal paste voids the warranty on the CPU? Well that sucks horse balls.

I'm not the "tweak and tweak" endlessly kind of guy. Car, just want to buy a good one stock, get in and drive. Computer, yes, of course I want to build it myself and not purchase a boxed one, but I want to build it good and fast from the start, and then just use it. No tweaking all the time to get the MAX possible performance.

I also agree on stability being a top concern. Love a system that runs 24/7 without a hitch.

As far as cooling goes, since I'm overclocked over 400 MHz and everything's on air I have three adjustable case fans all at max speed and a TT HSF fan at full blast, too. Even then my temps are around 48 C idle, I know, not the best. It's loud but I got used to it quickly. But for my next upgrade I DO want to attempt to build it as quiet as possible.

I've never OCed and am happy with my 1gig Tbird at stock speed.

Edit: I've actually got it undervolted to run cooler.

No OC for me. Everything is stock for now.

I'll admit, before I came in, for some reason I thought the thread was about Orange County, and I was thinking "what does he mean by 'prefer to OC'... hmm, must be some type of word they use for commuting to OC or something... crazy OC people."
