Is there ANY way to unlock the latest Bartons?

I'm sick of being stuck at 2.15GHz w/my Barton 2800+ because of a lack of PCI bus lock on my A7N8X so I want to crank up the CPU speed without raising the FSB. Yes, I realize raising the FSB speed is the best way to o/c, but I'm stuck at a pathetic 172MHz so I have to make the best of it. Perhaps if I lower the multiplier enough (10x maybe?) I can raise the FSB up to 200 and have the busses locked at 33/66 and not have to worry about it.

A7N8X has a pci/agp lock as does all nforce2 boards. Maybe your thinking of another board?

Mine doesn't A7N8X-X board. Sorry, should have specified that in my original post. The A7N8X-X lacks all the features of the Deluxe version such as SATA, dual-channel memory controller, and a PCI bus lock. I have the option to lock the AGP bus in the BIOS (which I do) but no option for the PCI bus.

The PCI bus is locked on all nForce2 boards, and there is no option in the bios because it is locked by default.

If my PCI bus is locked by default then what is holding me back from o/cing beyond 172MHz FSB? I tried a modest 175MHz FSB and prime95 locked up my pc. Also, Windows starts to get a bit screwy at this speed. I highly doubt the ceiling on my Barton 2800+ is a pathetic 2.15GHz. I know it's not my memory because I've run memtest over night and it had over 5000% coverage with 0 errors when I woke up (running Geil PC3500 2x512MB @ 2.5-3-3-6 & 2.8V).
Have I run into a limitation of the CPU? Is it the amount of voltage I'm putting through it? I'm running 1.7V right now (was running 1.75V) but 1.7V keeps me under the 50 C mark except under heavy load, whereas 1.75V will put it over 50 C most of the time. I was running a CPU stress testing app (don't remember which one) and when I rebooted and checked the temps in the BIOS it was at 63 C and rapidly falling down (so I assume it was even higher than that before I rebooted). Could the temps simply be too high?
I'm really not enjoying this o/cing adventure... My T-bred 2400+ o/c'd higher than this Barton 2800+ does, and I got that CPU a year ago.

I wouldn't want a CPU temp over 60 degrees. You think your barton sucks? My new 2500+ tops out at 2050, almost regardless of voltage (so I'm at stock). I know yours is a 2800+, but they're supposed to be similar cores. I am thinking of swapping mine for a mobile and trying again, though in truth mine IS damn fast, I just hate that it didn't OC much, and I could always get a mobile in 6 months or something.

I think it's not your PCI or anything but the fact your CPU simply can't hack it

Noes!!!!!!11 That's not what I wanted to hear Thanks Skoorb. Guess I'll have to spring for one of those nice shiny 2500+ M chips eh? At least now I know my mobo doesn't suck quite as bad as I thought it did, and my memory can certainly handle much higher FSBs.
Anyone wanna trade an 2500+ M for a 2800+?
