Is there any way to telnet into a SOHO router remotely?

I would assume you could as long as you have it with a visible static IP address that you could ping from wherever you want to get to it from.

No, I'm trying to telnet into the router itself, so I can make some admin changes. But it's not even responding to a telnet request...Does it check to make sure the request is coming from 192.168.x.x? :frown:

I am only able to telnet to my RT314 from a computer on my LAN. My router is not visible or pingable outside my LAN.

There is an option in the config to allow you to get to the router remotely. However, by default you have to be on the inside subnet.

I have my RT314 setup so my LAN (two whole computers! Wow! :p) is completely invisible to the outside world. You can't ping or telnet the router from outside the LAN. Security is best when it's complete. Or as complete as complete can be in this day and age of 5-year olds hacking the Pentagon and IBM.

Well, it has a password on it (a cryptic one), so even if someone took the time to crack my password, they wouldn't find much but some porn. ;)
