Is there any way to suppress pop up ads?

I hope I'm not posting this in the wrong forum, but does anybody know of a freeware or shareware program that keeps pop up ads from showing up when web-browsing?

I use the hosts file. it is located in the winnt\system32\drivers\etc folder. use notepad to edit it. Note this file has no extension.

The setup is like this:

127.0.0.1 localhost #This should be the first line. Anything after the pound sign is disreguarded by the os.
127.0.0.1 ad.doubleclick.net #This will stop doubleclick ads from poping up.

Add as many as you like. I preffer this because I don't have another proggie running. With 768Meg you would think that I wouldn't concern myself with things like that.
