Is there any way to shut down a Windows comp remotely?

Want to play a prank on my friend. And it would be a fun thing to know about.

You can shut down via remote desktop, I believe. This would of coarse only work if your friend isn't there and is unaware that you have an account on his machine somehow.

Or, you can put his power bar on a clapper and just put a recordig of you clapping somewhere on a timer, haha.. I don't know.

from the command prompt type "shutdown -f" and it will give you the syntax for shutting down computers (both remote and local). Keep in mind that your account needs shut down privilages over the target in order to execute this command.

I was thinking along the lines of the one virus a while ago that exploited a service. Can't remember the name though... And then I don't have to noticeably tinker with his comp.

you are probably thinking of the RPC exploit that blaster made use of, I remember an application that would just use the exploit to reboot computers...

I did get it to run successfully (shutdown -s -f -m \\HisSlowComp). However his main computer won't respond using it's network name as required by the command. So I was looking for an IP address alternative.

por so you found the app the does it? if so where did you get it ? i have roomies too and one is freaking out about the riaa and his music collection , i am going to reboot him and blame it on the riaa for some fun

It's not an app, it's integrated into Windows.
