Is there any way to rename kazaa .dat files to make them useable?

I have a short anime music video that I have been trying to get off kazaa and it is pretty much finished, but I can't seem to find the guy to continue the download, so I want to just rename the file and make it something that I can watch. Is there any way to do this?

As long as you know the right type it should work fine, I've played kazaa.dat files in Linux via mplayer just fine while kazaa was downloading them.

What kind of file it is? DivX? If so there is a program called AVI Preview that allows you to see unfinished DivX files - and you don?t even have to rename the files.

I just did it in nero. Is there any way to make an mpeg smaller?

Compress it into an .avi
