Is there any way to force a reinstall of DirectX 9c?

It seems like I have a messed up install of direct x,

dxdiag is showing version 8.1 however, when I run the setup (dxsetup) for dx9
it doesn't do anything and says that all files and up to date .

is there like a command line switch for dxsetup to force a reinstall of everything?

if you play a game like HL2 does it say its running in dx9 mode?

some games have "updated" dx9c stuff, so it could install that then, possibly fixing this, but i dont know what games use that.

why dont you uninstall directx and reinstall it. search for direct x uninstaller
