I really have absolutely no use for a floppy but as I understand it it is required by windows for SATA.

I am upgrading to a 4400+, I have a Dell 8400 3.4 now and it comes w/ SATA support on the Win XP/Dell CD-Rom... seriously f* MS if I have to get a floppy just because they failed to compensate on their overpriced OS.

(Also, it'd be cool if I can use my dell XP on the athlon but I suspect I wont be able too)

you can put the sata drivers on ur windows xp cd using nlight i think it was called. easier to just buy a floppy 🙂

do you mean that you have a hdd with xp on it in a dell machine and you want to use it in another one? there could possibly be a way if you were not going to use the dell anymore since you would probably have to get a new code from M$...

What do you need for that and does it cost or can you use shareware?

I have an nec dvdrw on my current system..

I didn't have to use a floppy to get my SATA up and running... This was a new Pc and windows installed just fine, just like on a PATA drive.

Yeah, does SP2 include the drivers? Hadn't even thought of that...

I'm in the same situation.

I recently ordered a floppy drive for my Dimension 8400 because I'm installing XP Media Center Edition 2005 and need to install "third party drivers".

NVIDIA AND INTEL INTEGRATED SATA DO NOT REQUIRE DRIVERS FOR INSTALL. Sorry wanted to make sure you read that, if your going with a 4400+ then the only good choice is an Nforce4 or Nforce3 board and neither need SATA drivers. They can be run in compatibility mode through the bios.

isn't the 4400 a x2 cpu? nf3 supports x2?

Yes it does. As long as it is a 939 board, not many are but the few that are will work. in fact somewhere on this forum is a group of guy updating the Bios in their Neo2's for X2's.

Certain Intel boards can do it in Enhanced mode without drivers, just using XP SP2.

can you point me in the correct direction for this, as i looked on the msi website and found bios info for the nf3ultra chipset but it doesn't state anything about dual core support, where the bios info for the nf4 clearly states dual core support.
