I've heard rumors that most Plasma TV manufacturers will not warranty the product unless it's installed for you. Is this true or just a scam by the installers?

Just had a discussion with my neighbor who told me that plasma is delicate and often breaks just in shipping. He's waiting for LCD to get bigger.
