i know how vaccines work, i'm just saying that i'm not gonna be in any sort of risk of getting the virus.

edit: if i do start a job or move to a location where its likely i'll be in contact with the virus, i'd get the vaccine before-hand.

Yep. This is why I never wear a seatbelt. I've never been in an accident, so it's pretty stupid to waste time putting one on, plus, sometimes they cause more damage than if you were not wearing one.

I think that's a pretty poor analogy. The human body has a built-in seatbelt called the immune system. Mine is working pretty well, so why would I want a 3rd party belt going in as well?

I think you fail at analogy. Your body has a built in restraint system as well. It is perfectly designed to handle impact. A seatbelt only strengthens your natural ability to withstand an impact. Just like a flu shot merely strengthens your already well equipped immune system. It's a perfect analogy.

in this country, it is the norm to have a subpar immune system. so it's like not wearing a seatbelt. if you had an optimal immune system, it's like having no seat belt, but having airbags all over the inside of your car.

therefore, the flu shot is like having a seat belt. however, it's only a seatbelt for certain types of impacts (specific flu strains) and not others (different flu strains out there).

Bullshit. i dont care what the docs say, every singe time i got the damn flu shot while active duty military i got the damn flu within 2-3. i have not had the flu shot in 14 years and have never been sick with it.

Back in 1st grade I had the flu. I was out for 7 days. The day I came back I threw up. Out for another 5 days before I went back to school again.

I also had the flu back in college and was in intense pain for 7 days. IE couldn't do anything but sleep.

About 3 years later I started getting the vaccine. Haven't had the flu since however I have gotten sick (strep throat) which is almost as shitty and lasts a bit longer but nowhere near as intense pain as the flu.

I had it and got over it in less than 2 days. It definitely wasn't like that when I was younger, but I guess my immune system is stronger now.

(Yes, it was the flu, doc said so, and that it was likely H1N1 too).

Any reasons not to get it?
* Some patients exhibit flu like symptoms after getting flu shots.
* It costs money and time
* You are an adult at the prime of your life as far as the immune system goes.

If you are really young, really old, have a compromised immune system or work with previously mentioned items, then by all means, get the flu shot. But if you are are the average joe, let the really old, really young, people with compromised immune systems, and people that work with those groups get the shots. No point in causing a high demand.

the average time it takes to get over the swine flu is 4 days. the cdc asks that you wait another 24 hrs to make sure you're completely symptom free.

the typical flu takes about 8 days or so to get over, considering you didn't get any complications like pneumonia.

flu is more deadly than swine flu. it kills 36000/year regardless of number of vaccinations administrated.
