Is there any reason to get a gtx 580, compared to AMD's offerings? I prefer evga, but thats all the "brand preference" i have; and it is not a very deep love. I got one today for 470USD, its still returnable. I want to be able to jump right to playing BF3/Guild Wars 2/Tera/Borderlands/etc when the later game comes out. Advice anyone?

btw can a corsair gs800 run dual gtx 580 OC'ed with a 2500k O.C'ed?

That card will run any game you want. And if you are playing at 1080P like most of us, it should last you into the future as well. A 7950 will use less power and is a bit faster. But not enough of a reason to return it.

Keep it and enjoy your games!

Only if you need PhysX or you use the nVidia 3D Vision.

I would personally have gone for a HD 7950/7970.

Or you can wait 1 month for what nVidia may launch (rumored to be a GTX 670Ti).

EDIT: Also if someone can confirm/correct me with EVGA you can take part in the step up program if they launch a new card in 60(?) days.

EDIT 2: I was wrong it is 90 days and you have to register the card. For terms and conditions please go to http://www.evga.com/support/stepup/

I'd either get an HD 7950/7970 or better yet wait for Kepler. Even if Kepler ends up slower it will definitely lower the price of GTX 580, and maybe AMD's offerings as well.

im -very- tired of my gts 450, and fry's have this 30 day low-price guarantee that should help me out if they drop the price within the next month.

You asked if there's any reason to get a 580. I would say, except for CUDA, which if you used it you wouldn't be asking in the first place, no. The 7900 AMD's would be a better choice.

What you really want to know is, "Is there any reason to get rid of a 580, as you already own one. The answer to that is also no, IMO. Unless you are running hi-res, and then, only if you are going to O/C the cards.

I bought a 580 at Frys when I built my new system in Nov and I'm pretty happy with it running at 1920x1200. The Asus Platinum overclocks very well and I get ~60 FPS on ultra on BF3 at that resolution. Running SLI with 800W might be pushing your luck, though. I'd wait for newer models.

I'll sell you my 580 when the 7990 comes out. I've got my eye on a 2560x1600 monitor.

Yah i will prob sell my SLI GTX 580 when the next best offering comes out. While i like them, i'm tired of terrible drivers from nvidia.

The new ones released don't work at all for me in any game. Pretty pathetic.

For the same price you can get a 7950, which is faster, more energy efficient, and has more OC headroom

Exchange for 7950 IMO.

I was in this same exact situation a month ago & I was dead set on a 580 3GB, but changed my mind once I dug into the 7970 benchmarks.

They're both great cards & for $470, if it's the 3GB version, I'd say is a good deal.

If it's the 3GB 580, I'd keep it. If it's the 1.5GB, I'd return it and get the 7950 or 7970.

If you have the money to burn I guess it's fine. You wouldn't find me ever going into the range of spending ~75% more money for 20% more performance, though.
GTX 560 Ti 448 Cores is $270 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130738
And that one is factory overclocked higher than the LE in Anandtech's review:

Yeah, I'd agree with this. Put that $200 back in your pocket and in a year from now take another look at what's going on. That card DS mentioned is going to really be a huge step up from your GTS 450.

Me i would keep the card unless you can find a 7950 for the same price.

Oh i love Evga as well my current card is a evga, but the suggestions about the 560ti 448 core is excellent,my 560 non ti for a while had 945 core,2225 memory putting it very close to the 448 and performance was very good.

This gpu was finally stable at 925 core,2100 memory @ 1.037v as its locked and i do miss the extra performance very much so i can say grab the 560ti 448 as well.

return it and get a hd7950 imo. Cooler, quieter, almost 100w in power savings and a higher overclock potential. Also moar gigabitez!!111

(If you're running a 1920x1200 or lower, I'd even wait for the 1.5 gb model, which is due out next month, I think)

User/system error. They work great here.
