Is there any reason a ATI X1600Pro will not work with a ASUS A7V600?

I installed the video card and get a blurry/smeared image. It's so bad that I can't even read the text in the BIOS screen. It's completely seated and I've tried it in another machine where it worked flawlessly.

I'm starting to wonder if the video card in compatible with the VIA KT600 chipset.

Any ideas?

Asus A7V600
Athlon 2800+
1GB ram
High end 465W PS
DVDR
Ti4800SE video card

I don't understand why I can't get viewable video even at the post/BIOS screen. I mean, it's not like it's a driver issue at that point, correct?

Thanks for any help.

does it get to windows fine and display windows correctly, I've found that some Video cards will display artifacts or blurry images when in the BIOS or in a DOS environment, but work 100% once they get to windows.

No, unfortunately, when it gets to the windows desktop everything is blurry and unreadable, as well.

FWIW, I completely uninstalled the Nvidia drivers prior to installing the ATI card.....but that shouldn't even be an issue because I'm getting unreadable video at the post screen and in the BIOS menu before any drivers are loaded.

I installed in card in a PIII 933MHz machine and it booted normally with readable text, but when it's installed in the A7V600 I get the condition I described.

maybe it could be an odd incompatibility between the Video card and A7V600....IIRC the last of the VIA skt A chipset (kt400A and KT600) were pretty crap and had lots of problems...so much that IIRC the KT400A was withdrawn....I remember a few Gigabyte boards...mainly the GA-7VAXP-A series which had lots of problems with running the 400 fsb cpu's...I'm not sure what Video card problems they had, but they sucked anyway.
