Is there any really cool rap out there that I don't know about?

I like some rap...basically if it has a really cool beat and some sweet lyrics (preferably ones that arent solely about blunts/b!tches/money)

I like all the Jurassic 5 that I've heard. Also "turn it out" and "watch out now" by the Beatnuts or "the grind date" and "verbal clap" by De La Soul are some examples of the type of rap I like. Anyone have any suggestions of some really original and cool rap that I could check out? Much thanks to all!!:beer::heart:

etc etc. too lazy and tired to think right now

as far as J5 - get 'conrete schoolyard' if you haven't heard it. that is an awsome song.

Freestyle Fellowship (Aceyalone specifically)
Lost Boyz
Pharcyde
Mos Def & Talib Kweli

and I'll second your like of Jurassic 5...not because their music is really deep, but the phonetics are easy on the ears.

download some songs by Necro hes a white-jewish rapper from brooklyn. IMHO I think he is better then Eminem, hes just not popular because he is underground.

I Need Drugs
White Slavery
Beautiful Music For You To Die To
Hoe Blow

are just a few of his songs. he mostly raps about porn stars, sex, death. I like him because he has his own style and he makes his own beats which is better then mostly everything in mainstream.

Good recommendations although I think that Mos Def & Talib's latest albums kinda suck.

Fab 5 Freddy.

Deborah Harry aka Blondie did an awsome rap at the end of the song Rapture. It really hits home and makes so much sense.

Hmmm...You'll probably have a tough time finding most of the stuff that's been recommended so far...

Of artists you could access a lot easier, I like the Roots, Kanye West. Oh, and the Black Eyed Peas. They're probably becoming too pop, but they've made a lot of funky songs through the years.

I'm sure someone's gonna say Atmosphere sooner or later...but I've never really been impressed by his stuff.

I don't really agree with those other two lists!
Here's some artists you might like:
latest Alchemist disc has some nice tracks
AZ
Outkast
Consequence
Cormega
Dilated Peoples
Ghostface Killah
Guerilla Maab (Z-ro's new cd is mostly rather emotional stuff)
Hi-Tek's 2001 would fit nicely
Jay Z
Kanye West (If you don't mind his arrogance)
Mos Def
Murs (his most recent cd was one of the top 3 best rap discs of 2004)
Nappy Roots
Nas
Rakim
Talib Kweli
Tragedy Khadafi
White Boy
Wordsworth (also dropped one of the best discs of 2004)

in addition, i gurantee that almost all artists have at least one song you would like!

Go back to the 80s and early 90s; you'll have plenty of good stuff. Big Daddy Kane (pure genius), Slick Rick, etc.

Heh heh...depends how far back the OP wants to go.

If you're going to that time period, don't forget Tribe, the 'Liks, De La Soul, KRS-1 before he lost his edge (also went crazy), Tupac...
