Is there any program that will remove the vocals from a song?

We were hoping to do some karaoke on the computer and my buddy swears he used to have a program (maybe even an old version of WMP?) that would enable you to edit out the vocals leaving you with just music.

Any ideas?

hmmm

Usually when I did that kind of stuff, I just had to search for instrumentals for songs. There might be something in the application called "Fruity Loops" (seriously) that you can remove certain chords which would be vocal from an audio track. No guarantees though

I used to have a plugin for Winamp that tried to do it. It worked pretty well on some songs, others not at all.

not easy or cheap esp if you want to preserve any sort of quality to the instrumental. Easiest way, but not necessarily the most convenient or cheap is to get the master that has all the tracks and just delete the vocal track.

That's pretty impossible to get for a song, isn't it?

There are some plugins for winamp and xmms that can sort of do it. Last time I tried them they kind of half worked but hey they are free so give them a try.

You can get a lot of songs w/the vocals and instrumental split up on vinyl...
