is there any point in upgrading my nvidia 5200 when I only play games at 1280x1024?

Almost surely. The 5200 is really slow (that is, unless your games are running smoothly). If you want to do a decent but cheap upgrade, get a used 4200 and sell the 5200 (Ironic, but you'll be gaining lots of speed).

the 5200 is grap.... I run my games at 1024x768 and I think my radeon 9700 is not enough... Ofcourse it depends on the games you play... I play all the latest games and I usually turn on all the hardware rendering stuff to max, but if you are still playing counter-strike or something, and never plan on moving up, then don't upgrade. :)

You play at 1280x1024 with a GF FX 5200?
You sir, are brave and have no idea how games are supposed to look :)

Before asking anymore questions, give us a clue as to what games you are playing and what not.

Dude, you don't play games, you watch slideshows.

Upgrade and experience what those games were meant to look like.

You can get a used 4200 on the forums for about 70. Then sell your card for a very cheap upgrade. Or be more bold, get a used 9700 pro on the boards, then sell the 5200 for a bit of $. If you do it right, your difference may be close to 100.

Try and grab a ti4200 or fx5600 from somebody on the forum. With 100 bux I don't think you can buy much retail.

I think you can get a PS2 for $100 now-a-days :D

FX5200 is awful, i dont know why so many people bought them. A TI4200 would probably be a decent upgrade to the FX5200. Whats the rest of your specs? Maybe a vidder card isn't all you need.

Oh my goodness, what unbalance in the Force! Really, go get a decent graphics upgrade... something, anything decent!

Don't let your processor have all the processing fun :D

Ditto, if you really want to see what you have been missing, beg, borrow or steal and order one of

These.
or if cash is short, try one of these.
Either of these would be a giant step up from the FX5200, upgrading to a Ti4200 would be a small, yet cheap upgrade. A 9800 Pro or 5900 SE would allow your CPU to really show its' stuff and keep you from feeling compelled to upgrade again for at least 6 months.

NFS Underground gets choppy on a 9600pro at 1280x768. I have no clue how you can play any of your games that high and not get nautious with that card. Buy a 9800xt and bet you will still get crappy frame rates at that high of resalution. Type FRAME while driving in need for speed underground just to see what kind of frame rates your getting. Im sure its going to be laughable.

Playing NFSU on my lappy with a 4200 Go (64 MB VRAM) at 1024X768 with no problems at all...

1280X1024 gets *slighty* choppy.. normally not noticable...
