Is there any place where you can get brand new clicky keyboards?

I hate the "Soft Touch" crap.

I'm using an ancient Dell keyboard that weighs probably 5lbs, but it's really dirty.. I guess I could clean it up, but I'd rather just get a new one if you can still get them.

The mechanical (vice capacitive as current keyboards are, IIRC) keyboards are available, but they are terribly expensive. I agree with you--I miss the mechanical click kbs.

Goto a Goodwill Computer store if you have one around you. They had a ton of those clickers the last time I went.

I like the soft touch ones.. but it seems today's keyboards.. Microsoft, Logitech, Kensington, etc.. all have El-Cheapo Sh1ttytouch Keys (TM).

If you find a place, lemme know.. I want a decent quality keyboard where the keys don't wiggle sideways when I type. However, I prefer quiet keyboards so I can type and talk on the phone at the same time without the other party hearing me.

Why? They're obnoxious and not that awesome.

I just prefer the positive feedback of the keys. Always have.. I've never liked the new soft touch keyboards. They feel so cheap....

😀

The other party always gets a kick out of that, because I type so fast it sounds like a whole tribe of Africans speaking Zulu.. lol

A good quality "soft" keyboard works fine. They just have to be set up properly.

I'm currently using the Dell keyboard that came with a server purchase a LOOONG time ago. The keyboard that came with my 5150 a few weeks back is simply horrible in comparison.

just search on ebay for an IBM M series KB. there are a ton for sale in good clean condition and you can probably score one under $20

because they feel like crap and you can type faster on the bigger keys

BS. i can type faster than most people on my logitech G15. needing to hear a click to assure yourself you pressed the key basically means you are stupid. if you are watching the screen you can tell if you hit the key.

Uh, ok.

It has nothing to do with hearing the click, it's the feel of the keys.

Liken it to the poor feedback that some automobile accelerator pedals give you.

I agree with Eli. It allows you to keep a timing and rythym. And it gives you a better sense of when something wasn't typed correctly.

maybe I'm just special but I bet I can type faster than you, and most people on these forums, in fact and I use a "clicky" keyboard
it lets me know when I've already pressed one key, with those crappy small keys you get a lot more typos

I agree, most soft keyboards feel like crap, but logitech got it just right with the G15. I  my G15 and wouldn't trade it for any other keyboard. It does clack but just enough to be responsive and not so much that it drives you nuts.
