Is there any need to OC my CPU further for gaming?

is no one going to ask "How much RAM?" lol, assuming you have 8 gigs (it does make a difference in gameplay from 4 gigs)

Interesting, I can't say I noticed much difference but I didn't have much time to test as I had to send them back after they started causing BSOD's.

Which games are we talking about and how much of a difference?

post 4ghz will u see a difference?

no...

i dont think the ends would merit you going beyond 4ghz... well not unless ur gpu was a 7970 and u crossfired.
Then yes... ud probably be able to get somewhere near 3-10 more fps if u went up past 4.5

However again... 7970.. which u dont have... so... no.. id keep it at 4ghz and be happy..

So you are saying my current GPU (7950) isn't powerful enough for my i5-3570k to go beyond the 4 Ghz? What if I superclocked my 7950? Would 4 Ghz still be enough then?

Tons of power for both card and cpu @ 4ghz.

Should be able to play Ultra with good fps. And increasing RAM from 4g to 8g will make a difference in gameplay. Try it, Ram is cheap today.

I would not Superclock the 7950, but a moderate OC should be fine as this is a good card

Ran a couple benchmarks with three AAA titles to see how much an overclock would help you. This was with an overclocked 7950 in a single gpu configuration. As you can see below, Crysis 3 is the only title to gain a real benefit from overclocking. Even @ 4.0Ghz you are fine....

Crysis 3 - VHQ- Textures - HQ - System Spec - SMAA2X
Tomb Raider - Ultimate Preset
Farcry 3 - Ultra Settings - SSAO - MSAA2X

I've been playing Supreme Commander lately and that game pegs Core 0 at 100% and all other cores are basically idle. That means that at 3.4 GHz (stock), my CPU is a huge bottleneck.

Wouldn't the game engine be the bottle neck since you are only using 1/4 of your CPU capacity...

think an OC can help if you're running multi video card

not sure if it happens often with dual, but if using triple or quad, I believe CPU limitation can occur

unfortunately I can't find the article / review that tested it

found a simple example from 2010 that only covers dual card

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/amd-crossfire-nvidia-sli-multi-gpu,2678-8.html

not finding an example showing scaling for 3 or more GPUs
