Is there any need / reason to upgrade my monitor?

I have been using a Dell 22" monitor, model no. SP2208WFP, ( http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2280420,00.asp ) and am very happy with it. Even when the whole world moved on to Full HD I didn't care as the resolution increment was very mere. But not for resolution, about picture / panel quality, is mine totally outdated and really poor than new ones? I went to my buddy's home last week to see his newly purchased Dell 22" monitor (that entry level one), and I couldn't find any difference from mine.

So what do you guys say? Should I get a IPS panel, or stick with my current one? My budget is limited within 300 US$, and I won't get a 27" Full HD one, 24" is my target, and most probably 1920x1200, if possible.

TIA.

Very honestly, if you already have something that makes you happy, there is no need to upgrade/update/change. There are those who will upgrade every 3-6 months, just because they have the money, and honestly, while sometimes it may be worth it, the majority of the time, they're just wasting money. Stick with what makes you happy. If you like the clarity/sharpness/etc of your screen, no need to upgrade.

Well I love mine, cause back in 07 I paid 300 bucks for it. Secondly it might really have good picture. But I don't know if the colours are accurate and vibrant, cause I haven't seen an IPS panel monitor.
The resolution is a moot point to me, I won't spend a single penny to have 240x30 resolution increment.

I just wanted to know, is monitors like Dell U2412M, or Asus MX239H, IPS panelled ones significantly better than mine, or just a mere improvement? Also I am not a believer that IPS panels are the 'best' out there. How about M-VA panels of Samsung, say monitor like Samsung S24C750P, will be better?

I just wanna know how my monitor stands with nowadays competition?

If you can spend ~$150, the Dell S2340L @ 1920 x 1080p 23 inches excels. I use it with my Optiplex 3020!

My budget is 300 US$ sir. Cheap IPS is not my thing.

I have narrowed it down to two monitors, Dell U2412M or Asus VX279H. The former will have the advantage of higher PPI, but I will get the one with best image quality, and all other factors which matter in deciding a monitor's picture quality.

But my question stands, do either of them a worthy upgrade over mine? Will I see a substantial improvement in games / movies?

I would think a person knows that Dell monitors are better than Asus IMO

I know that Dell monitors are better for service / warranty related issues. But have seen loads of negative comments about their picture quality :D

It was for me too. When I read loads of review in Newegg and Amazon! There is a reason I am still using and kept my Dell for this long :|

According to reviews, the Asus mid / high end monitors got / get better reviews than same price ranged Dell monitors, I am talking about image quality here again.

Hmm, don't know, I don't find the model I posted, U2412M in that test! Anyway the 27" Asus is there and it scores 9.5, great. I hope that source is reliable enough, in that case I am going for the Asus.

IF you want the "best image quality"...
Hands down, get the U2412M (1920x1200, IPS, 27 pixel pitch).

Have to BUMP. Going to buy one tomorrow. Was outta town...

Now U2412M is my target. It retails here for around 290 USD. And just now I saw the Asus PB248Q, which retails here for around 405 USD. Is the extra 110 bucks worth investing for the latter, or shall I go on with the Dell?
