We're building a new site in the coming week (should be done mid march, this is to help roll out our Cloud VPS options), to look a bit better ... i'll make a post to have you guys criticize it too.

If I get a small VM can I host multiple sites on it?

Yes, they make free control panels too, if you don't want to pay for cPanel, DirectAdmin or something similar.

namecheap.com is the only one I can think of off the top of my head

NameCheap and GoDaddy are the two big ones. Both are good and have satisfactory control panels.

I prefer NameCheap but the only thing I don't like about them is the inability to white label your domain WHOIS.

namecheap.com is the only one I can think of off the top of my head

check retailmenot.com for coupon codes ... both of those sites have them pretty constantly. especially godaddy.

I prefer namecheap, even if it's a few bucks more .. much less bloated looking.
