Is there any easy way to back up about 56gigs of stuff?

I have an 80gig hard drive which I would like to format, but it has 56gigs of stuff on it that I want to keep. Is there possibly any easy way to back this all up? Don't got another HDD big enough to fit all of it, so am I going to go through 10 million CDR's?:(:p

Is this on topic for off-topic? I'm not sure where else I should post, so just LMK if this is in the wrong place.

get another HDD and copy to it.
either that or get a fast 100MBIT LAN and move files to another PC.
I back-up my main PC on my other computer through the network.

Borrow another drive and store it there. Transfer it to another puter's shared folder on your LAN. FTP it to another PC or other storage place if you have a wicked fast net connection. Hire a monkey to burn CDs.

Your easiest way woud be another HD. That or a DVD burner, but that would cost alot more then another HD. You can grab a slow, cheap 80 gigger for under a 100 bucks, plus it gives you full time back up....
Either that, or break out the coffee and burner!

No games. No pr0n. Just a bunch of a Asian pop music videos. :p

I think I'm going have to spread it out over three different computers... 2 20gis, and a 40gig will do it I guess... just a big hassle. :(

In that case, why not format them? Its not like you'd be missing much anyways...

Get a dvd burner and then it will only take like 11 or 12 disks... though it may be a more costly solution than what you were looking for.

i suggest you burn it anyway. only about 75 cds or so, and you'll be thankful when your hard drive eventually dies.

LOLOLOLOL :D

I'd just keep an eye out for a hot deal on a hard drive. It'll cost as much as a giant stack of CDRs anyways.

what's this junkyard thing you speak of?

always make atleast 1 partition of about 5gb for your os install so you don't have to worry abouts uch things. 2 partitions if you want to dual boot.

The problem with partitioning is that you're not protecting against drive failure. I'd get another drive..

if you have plenty of cash

buy one of these

Workstation/Laptop Backup
The Snap Server 1100 relieves your laptop and desktop backup headaches. Free PowerQuest DataKeeper software (unlimited user license) provides constant backup of desktop files. Laptop files are backed up to local drives while disconnected from the network, then are automatically saved to the Snap Server 1100 when the laptop is reconnected to the network.

Best way nowadays to be sure we have backups? Several options, most favored to least...

1. Purchase 2 of the same hard drive, and RAID it. Hopefully your mobo will have integrated support for this.

2. Purchase a second of your same hard drive, add a RAID card to your PC and RAID it.

3. Purchase an external, USB2.0 hard drive and copy your internal HD files to the external HD.

4. Organize and backup only critical data to CD-R.

The easiest way is with a 110/220GB SDLT. Of course, you're out $100 for the tape, a few grand for the drive, + whatever software you use to drive it.

Works for me. :D
