Is there any dif between DVD-R and DVD+R?

Ns1

No Lifer
I bought a pioneer dvr108 and i'm buying the dvd's now from here.

DVD-R is 48 for a 100 pack
DVD+R is 52 for a 100 pack

Is there a diff?

There are some technical advantages to +R but it also tends to be less compatible with DVD players. DVD-R was developed by the DVD group that standardized the DVD.

Compatibility isn't such a big deal with more newer DVD players but it used to be.

Since there is a pretty big chance that the burner is ± I don't see how it matters much.

Edit: Didn't notice that he said he bought a Pioneer DVR-108. That means there is a 100% chance that it's ±

I think the vast majority of burners are +/- nowadays. that did kinda suck back during the format wars, though.

I've always only used -R and have never had any issues with it.

If your burner can do it which I don't think the Pioneer DVR-108 does. I could be wrong though.

You can pretty much get either NeuroSynapsis. I happen to prefer Ritek G05 DVD-Rs.

The Piodata firmware can be used to convert a regular Pioneer DVR-108 without bitsetting in a drive that supports bitsetting. Sounds like you never even thought about this. This is a HUGE improvement all the Pio-108 owners asked for.

Be extremely careful with this! While the 108DX firmware/kernel may work with the Pioneer 108D/A08, it will NOT work and could damage the Pioneer 108XL/A08XL. Be sure to acquire a copy of the official firmware and kernel for your drive prior to flashing to the DX firmware. This is so you can flash back in case of problems.

fun
/me hugs his nec2500 with hacked firmware and dvd+r taiyo yuden discs. 🙂
