Is there an optimal way to set up your subwoofer?

My old roommate told me that to get optimal sound it's best if you can get the "woof" end of the subwoofer pointing towards a corner of the room. I've never really noticed any great increase in sound quality when I do that though.

Can anybody guide?

Putting the sub in a corner generally helps it sound louder.

Corners re-enforce certain frequencies. If you're happy with the sub's performance, though, negate that recommendation. For me it's more about phase- just place it where it sounds best.

Well, if you can easily manage to move your sub around, then just split the room into a number of "zones" (however many that you feel like moving the sub to), and just see how things sound in each zone. No really easy way to tell you where it's going to sound best, and generally the corner will make it "boomy", for reasons that iwearnosox suggested. I'd move mine around if it wasn't so fvcking huge. 🙂
