I'm not going to tell someone to do anything dangerous, only telling you what I'd do that is dangerous, or not so much if paying attention to details, lol.

I'd just take some flush cut pliers and cut the wire after the last boot where the last light drops down, then dig in with those flush cut pliers into the end of that last boot, and cut one of the 120V wires shorter than the other so there is a greater distance between the two conductors where their insulation stops, leaving both of them shorter than the T-boot for each bulb, and then with them shorter than the T-boot, leaving space (an open void) at the end of the boot where it formerly had the wire going to the rest of the string of lights, I'd just fill in the void in the boot and weatherproof it with sensor safe (acid-free cure) RTV sealant like you find in automotive stores. Even that is being cautious. non-sensor-safe silicone caulking would probably work fine too, what does it matter if the ends of wires that are terminating, get a little bit of corrosion while the caulking sets?

If that is not done with attention to details, it could be a safety issue... like anything else you do that isn't considering the details. I am not advocating doing this, just telling you what I'd do. I'd NOT have some box dangling off the end of this just to solve the issue of shortening the string light run. It might be the correct way to do it, I don't argue against that, but meh no, that is trying to mitigate a problem by just telling people to do the safest thing in case of user error, which is conservatively the best answer to tell someone who has to ask, but I digress.

Do not do what I described. But that's what I'd do. A box to terminate that? I'd rather tie enough knots in the line to decrease the length by 10' than do that. Just sayin'...
