Is there an easy way to tell what kind of ram is in a computer?

I need to get some more RAM for my parents' computer (they're running Win XP with only 128MB of RAM and it's NOT running well), and since it's a Dell, I can only imagine the pain I'll have to go through to figure it out by opening the computer up. Is there any easy program that reads the SPD or anything?
