bober, what frig?

A Rifter, of course. Is there any other combat frigate worth flying? 😉

(Intys/AS notwithstanding.)

BoberFett - if I wasn't two time zones away from a machine capable of handling Eve, I'd hop online and go hunting with ya. 🙂

Yep, it's a Rifter. Gonna try it out right now. 😀

It does seem complicated at first. And considering I've been playing for three days and barely scratched the surface of what appears to be available, it is very complex. But once you figure out the basic systems and how things work, it's not too bad, and it's quite a bit of fun.

Ah, a rifter, very nice frig 🙂

The top of the line frigs for all races are I think all good. Some more specialized than others though.

Rifter, fast, good damage, just your basic good frigate.
Incursus, awsome silly damage, sometimes when a corp is bored they might get the idea to get loads of these cheap, fit them with blasters and start to harrash battleship pilots in 0.0 😛 ... but its very very close range
Punisher, great tank and decent damage.
Kestrel, the missile king of frigates. Used to be way more popular when they could use crusie missiles (same with the rifter), but its still kinda popular.

Aaargh, just had my first real frustration, and it's interface related. Not sure how or if it can be changed. I was doing a mission and going after groups of drones. There were four groups of three to five drones each. As I was in the middle of fighting the first group, I accidentally targeted one of the drones from the second group. There was no way I could take on 9 drones, I went down fast. To add insult to injury, I had a memory implant in my cargohold worth 2.4M. 🙁

The reason I targetted those other drones and rained down holy hell on my ship? Everything moves all over the place in the Overview. Things jump up and down the list, I find it to be a real pain the arse. Obviously it has to be realtime info as to what's around you. But it just seems really difficult to use when there's a lot going on around me. Or maybe I'm not using it in the manner I'm supposed to?

Anything I can do to keep the Overview list from jumping around so much?

for the above poster try sorting by distance if not just ctrl click on your targets and dont use the overview to target.

also the guy who said hes a MASS member. I'm Suprm 😛 Sorry about all the mess with the standings and stuff its just that were maxxed out... stupid CCP

One of the upsides of the game. The complexity gives you a lot of choices in what to do and how you do it. There is a lot of freedom in the game.

But after playing for 2 and 1/2 months I've decided to quit because it just takes too much time... travelling and earning money take too much of the game time and if you lose something (and you do, often), you need to work pretty hard to recover. And it seems to me I'd have to wait a few more months before I can really be competitive in pvp instead of just serving minor roles in fleet battles. I don't think I want to devote that much time before I can really have fun. The pve content is extremely boring and repetitive imho, I'd rather mine while browsing the web.

Well you could always do the mining stuff while surfing the web, I have mine set to display in window view and when I'm doing something that doesn't need my attention (like an autopilot route I'm running now) I browse the web. You could probably get away with it as long as you have some scout drones watching your butt while mining.

Downloading the trial now... I think this a game I could really get into. The only problem is finding a decent corp. I have no problem playing a role behind the scenes and supporting a core, but I think finding a decent core will be difficult.

I've been thinking about trying this game again but something always tells me "No." I've probably tried to play EVE 3 times and I usually just give up because of it's high learning curve. Apparently, you can play the game with little to no mining which is the only thing I remember when I tried to play EVE. Mining is... well... extremely boring. My account is dead now so I'd have to shell out $20 to reactivate it.

BF2 is getting a little stale and I'm looking for a MMO with some substience.

I haven't been thrilled with mining so far, but I'm going to keep at it and see if it gets more lucrative. At this point I'm running missions for security agents that pay out at over 150K, plus the rewards I get for taking out the targets put me over 200K per mission. Mining hardly seems worth it. I'll keep training up my mining skills and maybe when I can afford a large mining ship it'll be worth it.

EVE doesn't make you pay for the software. The only thing you pay for is the subscription, the game itself is freely downloadable right off their website.

your first player corp and first CEO will determine whether you stay in the game or not. That seems to be the general rule of player retention in EVE.

I paid $55 for it the week it came out.

mining is very lucrative & dependable if you train up skills. right now I average about 60k isks per minute mining in higher security area. in another 10 days or so I'll be able to get over 100k per minute. and you can do all of it while browsing the web... this is all in higher security area and with about 2 months of training with more than half of that in learning, support and fighting skills.

makes sense... my corp was ok at first but after a month, everybody started to go inactive and then the CEO decided to declare war when 90% of the people are carebears with less than 3-4 months of experience. I finally decided to quit the corp... maybe I'll find a good corp and become interested in the game again

I never got in to Eve. Never found a good corp, and I didn't like the fact that people that had been playing since launch had eleventy billion times more skills that me, and I had no way of catching up..just seemed kinda pointless.

you can catch up in terms of competitiveness if you specialize, but it takes about a year according to most people.....

very true, my character has about 27-28million skill points, but when it comes to frigate combat, crusier combat, battleship combat, mining and so on I'm not that much better than a 1 year old character. The only difference I have the skills to do all of those.

What you just said, whatever that means, should be enough to turn any "potential" off from this game.

lol EVE is different from most games as it does not give instant gratification. Skillpoints are not everything in the game. Player skills are a big deal too. A person who bought a 32 million skillpoint char off ebay, will get wtfpwned anyday by a 3-4 mil skillpoint char who knows what hes doing in a cruiser/frig

It takes about 6 mths for the game to really get going. The thing is most people have the false belief that they need skillpoints to pvp. 6 players 2-3 month players with 600k isk frigs can easily take out a 3 year 30mil SP veteran in his battleship worth 200 million. In any other MMO, the vet would flatten the 6 players without even sweating.

Yup, I decided I won't be logging back in after last night. Charging me money just to chat with an online buddy? Bah, last thing I need is to shell out money just to enjoy the game at the least enjoyable part -- the beginning --

Oh well, I think I am done with MMO's in general... I played DAOC and level up 7 characters to 50, then played WoW and got my L60 warrior and am currently dabbling in Guild Wars... I think I am done with it though... Eve sounded cool, but no way I am going to put 6 months of my life into a game before I can even be competitive.

Months? Pssh. Gank-equip a Frigate and go punt some lazy carebears. 😉

I started playing EVE 9 days ago. I LOVE it. Heck, I pulled two all-nighters already. The SAK (newbie) Corp is pretty friendly and helpful also.

I have found that Mining can be fun in groups, but fairly boring in groups. I bought a Badger and ferry Materials from mining site to a station. Heck, made 5 mill mining Sat night. That's BIG money for a newb. Bought my 1st Corm, not tonight i'm going to go kick some pirate ars. 🙂

if is not like wow or any other fantasy based game where you level up steadily with enough playtime and once you reach a certain point there is just about nothing for you to do except starting a new character and do it all over again. In eve a group of 1 month old character can easily take on any character which has been playing from the beginning. In eve any character with the most combat experiance is king, not the one with the most skillpoints.

And will keep on saying this, Eve is not a game, its a hobby.
