Is there a word we can safely use here to describe this group behavior?

"Fucking idiots that should be sterilized", although I guess that's not a description of behavior. I'm not sure, "mob mentality" maybe.

The more interesting question here is what the policy should be for the 'speech' involved.

At what point does it go from 'free speech' despite being hostile, to a crime?

Should the Jewish man have to put up with the group of people saying 'they should have killed all of you' to ride the subway? What should be done about it?

If you threaten or crowd around a police officer that is a crime. This is when the cops should call in riot cops and beat everyone up. If people want to act like a loudmouth gang member, then they deserve to be treated that way.

One problem cops have is they are charged with murder if they shoot an "innocent person". There is not really any such thing as an innocent person -- figure of speech. They also are not equipped for crowd control and often backup is too far away. Cops are always outnumbered so they have to learn to deal with angry crowd problems. They have to know when to call for backup.

While the article doesn't say, I bet the "crowd" was the 7-8 people that were already associated with the perp.

"I'm going to kill you right now," Stowe said, according to cops and court records. He then swore at the man, according to cops and court records, and in an apparent reference to the Holocaust added, "They should have killed all of you."

A direct threat like that is not legal, and is not free speech.

From TFA:

Amid the chaos -- and while Stowe appeared to resist arrest -- a woman aboard the train, Sheniqua Joseph, 22, got involved, according to police and the video.

After four minutes of alleged badgering of the officers, cops tried to place Joseph under arrest, video shows, and eventually slammed her against a wall while she went ballistic.

Joseph is accused of throwing a haymaker at one of the cops and kicking him in the stomach, court records allege.

She was arraigned on charges of obstructing governmental administration, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.

It just doesn't get any more stereotypical than that.

It really took them a long time to get additional officers down there to establish some semblance of a perimeter. I would not have been happy during the first few minutes of that if I was the initial two officers on the scene.

Hell, they probably should have had the subway operator shut the doors and move the train into the tunnel.

I'm a staunch supporter of the right of the public to videotape cops, but you can't stick your arm in the cop's face and basically breathe down his neck.

These are the same people that ran into two towering infernos on September 11th and probably saved some of the crowd's friends and family members, while hundreds of their co-workers/friends from their precincts died in the collapse.

I am waiting to hear about the law suits bought against the police for "excessive force". Bloody scavengers.

It's called 'minority culture'. Doesn't matter which one it is, they're all the same when it comes to this. Comes from living as a minority (of any type: ethnic, religious, etc). That being said, police/government frequently bring it on themselves. Not always of course, but often.
