Is there a way to take the vocal 'track' from WAVs or MP3s?

In other words, turn a song into an instrumental.. I was messing around with Nero before I burned a couple of songs and with the "karaoke" effect, the vocals were a lighter softer. Is there a way to turn down the vocals or take them out of a WAV or MP3 file?

I have not seen any good methods. What nero does is likely the same as what WinAmp plugins that do the same thing do. Basically these methods assume that voice is generally very similar across both stereo channels while the music will vary, so subtracting the signals will hopefully give the music without the voice. The problem is of couse that voice is not always the same over both channels and instumental sounds are sometimes the same over both channels, so the results are pretty low quality.

Yes there is it is a program called MP3workshop. I found that it is a very good program and sounds like it can do what you are talking about...
