I have a friend who restore his computer and didn't back up his files. Is there anyways to recover all his pictures? For ex, is there any program that can do it?

On XP anyways, when you go to system restore they give you the option to undo your last restore.

There is no other restore point other then the one that was created after the restore. Is there a service that will retrieve files?

You are all mixing up "restore" and "system restore".

OP: Which one are you talking about?

If you are talking about "system restore" as in "system restore point" then it doesn't touch pictures or other user data files. They would be in the same place you left them.

If you are talking about "restore" then what type of restore are you talking about? What backup/restore software, what restore type (incremental, differential). Did you format first?

Lots of details missing here that will prevent an accurate answer.

For just plain missing files due to deletion and formats there are programs out there that can do this for you to a limited extent. Beyond that you would need to contact a recovery service. Checkout ontrack and the like.

System Restore doesn't do anything to photo files. It basically changes the registry to a version that worked earlier. The pictures should all be there.

Like Smilin says - you got something confused here as to what happened. Did your friend restore from a backup file that was pre-pictures? If so, he's probably had the schnitzel - they have probably been overwritten.

The problem in the thread started with the first reply assuming you did "system restore" when it sounds like restoration of a backup image that may have overwritten all of the files.

To get better help, I suggest starting over with your description of the problem, please.

The way I'm reading your post right now is:
"My friend re-installed his entire Vista system without making any backups of his pictures first."?

Actually, I am getting it mixed up with my other thread.
