I have a bunch of american DVD's, but my dad doesn't understand all that well. I was wondering if i can re-author the dvd w/ chinese subtitles. Well not doing them manually, but like dling the subtitles from the web?
If you can download them in scenarist or maestro format then you can simply import them in. You'd have to demux the audio and video. Import them into the application, import the sub titles and then create the DVD structure. If the timing is off you'll either have to do em by hand or suffer with bad timing.
Yeah, you can re-author with subs, no problem. If you're converting between framerates -- e.g. taking Chinese subs off of a PAL DVD (24/25 fps) and importing them onto an NTSC DVD (23.976/29.976 fps) there are a number of programs which will resync the subs properly, provided the length of the video tracks are the same between DVDs.
You can also do it manually with similar programs. Check videohelp.com for more info.
