Is there a way to purposely make a computer Freeze-up?

How would one do this and make it very hard for someone to figure out the problem? How can it be done making someone think a new computer is in order.

Before ya say anything, I have no intention of harming anyones computer.
 
yeah, I know that, specifically Win9DHate 😉

Was thinkin more along the lines of hardware. Don't wanna make it useless like frying the cpu.

easy..scuff socked feet across carpet alot and then touch the harddrive..or delete something like..KERNEL32.DLL/KERNEL386.EXE
 
Found it, same thing for XP according to another site. I've never tried, let me know if it works!

Tip #56: Force Windows 2000 Crash

Perhaps they made it too stable? There is a registry entry that you can use to force a blue stop screen on Windows 2000 (hopefully this is because you won't ever see one otherwise). First, backup your registry, then make the following change:

Hive: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Key: System\CurrentControlSet\Services\i8042prt\Parameters
Name: CrashOnCtrlScroll
Data Type: REG_DWORD
Value: 1 (0 or nothing will disable the feature)

After a restart, holding down the right-side CTRL key and pressing the Scroll lock key twice will generate the Blue Screen of Death.
 
how about a razor across a few of the traces on the mobo? That would be hard to figure out that problem, right? Which ones that won't lend it completely useless, just make it run really flakey?
 
Its an older HP 850 Celeron, and I actually can't find where to change Mult or FSB in the BIOS.

con /con in windows 98 = instant BSOD
Given the age of this system I have a feeling it's windows 98.
Make a batch file that just says con /con and put it in the startup folder as a hidden system file!

Its a perfect stratagy for a computer builder, he goes in and messed up teh customer's computer, then offers to build him one....PRICELESS!
